LRTA Service Analysis Study

What is the Fixed-Route Service Analysis Study?

The Lowell Regional Transit Authority (LRTA) 2025/2026 Fixed-Route Service Analysis is a project to improve bus service in and around Lowell. The purpose of this project is to make recommendations for improvements to the bus network and individual routes. These recommendations could include changes to where the bus operates, how early or late the bus runs, and how often it arrives. LRTA wants to make bus routes work better for YOU!

What is the project timeline?

The project began in summer 2025 with existing-conditions analysis. During winter 2025/2026, LRTA developed early ideas for improving its bus routes. This spring, we are starting outreach with the public. We want to hear from existing bus riders and people who don’t currently ride.

Our outreach schedule is as follows:

·         Spring 2026: Draft Recommendations Outreach

·         Summer 2026: Final Recommendations Outreach

·         Fall 2026: Rider Awareness Campaign

·         January 2027: Changes to Routes Implemented

How can you provide feedback?

We want to hear from YOU! Your feedback helps us to design a system that works best for the community. There are several ways you can tell us how the system is working today and what specific ideas you have for improving it. You can give feedback via:

·         An online survey (link coming soon)

·         Pop-up listening sessions at the Kennedy Center/Lowell Station on Wednesday, 4/8/26. There will be a session from 6-8AM and again from 3-5PM.

You can also email LRTA project manager Justin Howard at justin.howard@lrta.com with comments or questions.
