LRTA Monthly Passes Stored on Your CharlieCard

You must be issued a CharlieCard before you can purchase any LRTA Monthly Passes.
LRTA Monthly Passes are valid from the first day of the month to the last day of the month only,
not 30 days from your date of purchase.

    These cards are issued by the MBTA. You can apply online or in person for a Blind Access CharlieCard.

Where to Get Your Charlie Card and Passes

LRTA Monthly Passes can be purchased on the last 5 days of each month until the 18th day of the following month.

LRTA Gallagher Terminal – 115 Thorndike Street, Lowell

  • Lobby Ticket Vending Machine
  • Products: Issues CharlieCards and Monthly passes
  • Kennedy Center Rider Information Booth
  • Products: Issues CharlieCards and Monthly passes
  • Regular Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM
  • Extended Hours: Monday – Friday, 6 AM to 6 PM, First two and last two business days of each month­.

LRTA Dispatch Office – 100 Hale Street, Lowell

  • Hours: Monday – Friday: 7 AM to 7 PM
  • Products: Issues Adult and Student CharlieCards and Monthly Passes
  • Cash Only

Lowell High School Cafeteria – 50 Father Morissette Blvd, Lowell

  • Products: Issues Student CharlieCards and Student Passes
  • Dates, times, and location within the school to be determined by Lowell High School and LRTA, Lowell High School will notify students when scheduled

LRTA Road Runner Office – 113 Thorndike Street, Lowell

  • Hours: Monday – Friday: 9 AM to Noon; call the office to schedule an alternative appointment time

  • Products: Only Issues Senior CharlieCards & CharlieCards for Persons with Disabilities/TAP. Monthly Passes cannot be purchased at this location.

CharlieCard Purchase Requirements

To Get Your Student CharlieCard

  • Bring a valid Student ID or Class Schedule from your school.

To Get Your Senior CharlieCard

  • Bring Photo ID that includes date of birth (Must be 60+ years)
  • Must fill out an application.

To Get Your CharlieCard for Persons with Disabilities/Transportation Access Pass (TAP)

  • First time applicants for the TAP ID, or applicants with expired TAP ID Cards need to fill out an application.
  • Click Here to Download the Transportation Access Pass (TAP) CharlieCard Application.
  • The LRTA will process your application within 14 days of receipt.
  • Once approved , you will need to bring a photo ID to the Road Runner Office.
  • Free round-trip transportation will be provided to you for this process.

To Get Your Blind Access CharlieCard

These cards are issued by the MBTA. You can apply online or in person for a Blind Access CharlieCard.

Using your CharlieCard

  • Use in-station fare vending machines to add stored-value or monthly passes to your CharlieCard.
  • Just touch your CharlieCard on the orange card target on any fare box. The money will be deducted automatically.
