The Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association (CMAA) strongly supports the Lowell Regional Transit Authority’s (LRTA) efforts to secure additional state funding to sustain and expand its no-fare bus service. Public transportation is a lifeline for many in our community, particularly Lowell’s Cambodian and immigrant populations, who rely on LRTA’s services for work, medical appointments, shopping, and social connections. Since the launch of the no-fare service, we have seen firsthand the positive impact on our clients, many of whom face economic challenges. Eliminating fare barriers has provided greater mobility, reduced financial strain, and improved access to essential services. This initiative has strengthened our city’s economic and social fabric, allowing more residents to participate fully in daily life without the burden of transportation costs. We commend LRTA for its commitment to equitable transit access and urge state leaders to provide the necessary funding to sustain this invaluable program. Continued investment in public transportation is an investment in our community’s well-being, workforce, and future.
